The Calgary Flames have done some significant roster shuffling over the last few seasons.
After the Rasmus Andersson trade earlier in the month, the Flames have just two players left from their 2021-22 playoff roster: Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman.
While a few were moved by former GM Brad Treliving, it’s been Craig Conroy who has shipped the vast majority out, as he and his staff have opted for more of a rebuilding approach.
Many of the players who have been dealt from Calgary are starring elsewhere, though there are a few who have had their fair share of struggles since departing. Let’s take a look at the seasons a few of the more notable departures are having…
1. Matthew Tkachuk
Team: Florida Panthers
2025-26 stats: 5 GP, 0 G, 3 A, 3 PTS
Things with the Florida Panthers have gone even better than Matthew Tkachuk could have dreamed. The 28-year-old has advanced to the Stanley Cup Final in each of his three seasons with the organization, while winning the past two.

This season, however, the Panthers are at risk of missing the playoffs, in large part due to Tkachuk’s absence. Surgery on a torn adductor and sports hernia late in the offseason resulted in him making his 2025-26 debut on Jan. 19.
2. Sean Monahan
Team: Columbus Blue Jackets
2025-26 stats: 47 GP, 8 G, 16 A, 24 PTS
Like the vast majority of the Columbus Blue Jackets roster, Sean Monahan is struggling this season. The 31-year-old, who is in the second year of a five-year deal, has found the back of the net just eight times through his first 47 games.
The down season is quite surprising, given that Monahan has had a resurgence since leaving the Flames. The 2024-25 campaign saw him record 57 points in just 54 games, giving optimism that he can get back on track soon.
3. Jacob Markstrom
Team: New Jersey Devils
2025-26 stats: 28 GP, 3.29 GAA, .879 SV%
Jacob Markstrom was quite happy to be traded out of Calgary following the 2023-24 season, as he believed he was joining a true contender in the New Jersey Devils. While the Devils were able to get into the playoffs last season, Markstrom’s play was average at best. In 2025-26, it’s far below that.

Markstrom has been one of the NHL’s worst goaltenders this season. That, in large part, is why the Devils find themselves well outside of the playoff picture.
4. Chris Tanev
Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
2025-26 stats: 11 GP, 0 G, 2 A, 2 PTS
There were plenty who winced when it was learned that the Toronto Maple Leafs had signed Chris Tanev to a six-year contract ahead of the 2024-25 season. He was, and continues to be, a well-respected shutdown defenceman, but the term had many wary.
Those concerns have been justified, as Tanev has logged just 11 games this season. His absence has played a part in the Leafs’ struggles.
5. Elias Lindholm
Team: Boston Bruins
2025-26 stats: 44 GP, 11 G, 26 A, 37 PTS
It looks like Elias Lindholm does have some game left, after all.
After struggling immensely over the prior two seasons, the 31-year-old has been a key contributor for the Boston Bruins in 2025-26. His strong season played a big part in being selected to represent Sweden at the upcoming Olympics.
6. Noah Hanifin
Team: Vegas Golden Knights
2025-26 stats: 42 GP, 2 G, 18 A, 20 PTS
As was the case for Noah Hanifin during his time in Calgary, his game goes far beyond the scoresheet.

Hanifin, who was named to Team USA’s Olympic roster, plays in all situations for the Vegas Golden Knights. He’s averaging 23:30 minutes per game, the second most amongst his teammates.
7. Andrei Kuzmeno
Team: LA Kings
2025-26 stats: 46 GP, 11 G, 10 A, 21 PTS
While it’s not as bad a start as Andrei Kuzmenko got off to with the Flames in 2024-25, the 29-year-old has been extremely inconsistent for the LA Kings this season.
It’s a tale as old as time for Kuzmenko, who seems to impress with new teams in the early going only to fade out in his second season. That said, he has been better as of late with nine points through his last 13 games.
8. Tyler Toffoli
Team: San Jose Sharks
2025-26 stats:
Tyler Toffoli has never reached the same highs as his 34-goal, 73-point season with the Flames in 2022-23, but has continued to remain productive.

The 33-year-old, who is in the second year of a four-year deal, has 15 goals and 35 points on the season. He’s been a great mentor to Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, and has helped the Sharks turn things around after several years of struggles.
