Charlie Coyle of the Columbus Blue Jackets was honored on Jan. 28 during a matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers to honor the NHL veteran’s 1,000th NHL game on the Nationwide Arena ice.

Coyle was celebrated during a pregame celebration with a special tribute video with highlights from the forward’s 1,000 games in addition to special messages from his peers. The Blue Jackets icon was also presented with a commemorative silver stick for the career achievement. If all of this was not enough, Coyle then scored the opening goal for Columbus against the Flyers in the opening frame.

The Blue Jackets would go on to take down Philadelphia — 5-3 — at Nationwide Arena.

Though, this celebration does come after Coylee participated in his 1,000th NHL game on Jan. 22 during a matchup against the Dallas Stars.

The veteran forward is in his 14th NHL season and first with the Blue Jackets. He also played seven seasons with the Minnesota Wild and seven seasons with the Boston Bruins. With the Bruins, he set a career high of 60 points during the 2023-24 season.

He additionally had a stint with the Colorado Avalanche last season.

Coyle is now one of over 400 players all-time to reach the 1,000 game milestone.

The Massachusetts native was originally traded to Columbus by Colorado with Miles Wood for Gavin Brindley, a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and a conditional second-round pick in 2027, back in June of 2025.
