A Pacific Division General Manager was in attendance and scouting the Vancouver Canucks during their game on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks.

“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts.” Rutherford said recently.

Pacific Division General Manager scouting Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday

With trade talks heating up around the National Hockey League ahead of the Olympic roster freeze next Wednesday, we’re starting to see an influx of scouts attending games to get a better idea of who their team wants to target.

According to Tyson Cole of Canucks Army, 14 different teams sent their scouts to watch the Vancouver Canucks take on the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena.

The most notable name that was in attendance however was Anaheim Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek, while the Toronto Maple Leafs sent two scouts to the game, which sometimes indicates that there might be talks between the two teams, whether it’s San Jose or Vancouver remains unclear.

The Anaheim Ducks are looking to add to their roster ahead of the trade deadline as they’re in the mix to reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2017-18 season, where they were swept in the first round by the San Jose Sharks.

Among the names in Vancouver that’ll certainly be of interest to Pat Verbeek is Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger and perhaps even David Kampf, but don’t be surprised if someone like Drew O’Connor is linked to the Ducks in the near future.

One player to keep an eye on from the Anaheim Ducks is defenseman Pavel Mintyukov, who back in November wasn’t too happy with his current situation in Orange County, but has seen his ice time increase in recent months.

“And in Mintyukov’s case, he’s been scratched a couple of games this week that the Ducks won [and] he’s not happy about that, as we wouldn’t expect any player to be. But there has been dialogue between the Ducks’ management and his agent, Dan Milstein, about whether this continues. I think he’d prefer to be somewhere else where he can play.” TSN’s Chris Johnston said in November.

We’ll have to wait and see what materializes in the coming months, but it wouldn’t be a shock at this point is Patrik Allvin and Pat Verbeek were to come together to complete a trade before the 12 p.m. PT deadline on Friday, March 6th.
