The Toronto Maple Leafs are linked to a number of potential trade options, according to a new report.
New reporting reveals multiple players that could be up for grabs as options for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with some major names being linked to the Leafs ahead of the NHL’s 2025-26 trade deadline on March 6th.
David Pagnotta’s ‘The Fourth Period’ compiled trade deadline big board presented the top-30 names that could find new homes from now until the deadline. Among the top ranked names are New York Rangers star winger Artemi Panarin and Sabres winger Alex Tuch as the top two targets.Panarin, who is sitting out for the Rangers and did not play Wednesday against the New York Islanders, is believed to have played his last game for the Rangers and is becoming increasingly likely to be dealt.
The Leafs are named as a target for a few top potential trade targets, and among the players on the deadline big board.
Not among the teams linked to the top two players, Toronto’s hope could start at number 3.
Toronto Maple Leafs linked to Dougie Hamilton, among others
The Fourth Period has linked defenseman Dougie Hamilton with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hamilton, 32, is the third ranked player on The Fourth Period’s trade board, and the Leafs are one team connected to Hamilton, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, & San Jose Sharks.
Hamilton has a 10-team trade list and that has impacted trade possibilities for the Devils, who have explored moving him since the off-season.
He’s in Year 5 of a seven-year contract and the Devils are trying to find him a new home.
He is open to exploring options outside of his preferred list and his agent is trying to help facilitate a move. – The Fourth Period
It’s unclear, but believed, that Hamilton would be willing to join the Leafs, but unknown if Toronto is one of the teams that are among his NTC teams or not.
Following a 17-game pointless streak from late-November throughout December, Hamilton has 11 points in his last nine games.
Hamilton is not the only player linked to the Leafs in the newest trade board. Along with Hamilton, two additional defenseman are also potential targets for GM Brad Treliving.
Sixth ranked trade target Luke Schenn is a potential target of the Leafs, along with the Colorado Avalanche. Schenn, a former Leaf draft pick and defenseman of five seasons, has six points in 38 games this season for the Winnipeg Jets.
Schenn’s younger brother, Brayden, is ranked fourth on the big board, linked to the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, & Minnesota Wild.
It could be a different scenario than other reports that have suggested the two Schenn brothers could re-unite via a trade.
Despite being linked to the Leafs during the last trade deadline, Brayden Schenn being traded to Toronto appears less like a plan this time around.
Another right-handed defenseman linked to the Leafs is St. Louis Blues RHD Justin Faulk. The 33-year-old is linked to Toronto, along with the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars.
Faulk has 11 goals and 25 points on the season, but has two years remaining at $6.5M with a 15-team no-trade clause.
Faulk is not the only Blues player linked to Toronto.
Forward Jordan Kyrou is linked to the Leafs with four other potential teams, including the rival Montreal Canadiens. Kyrou, 27, has 11 goals and 24 points this season with St. Louis, but with a hefty $8.125M annual salary until 2031 making a trade anywhere unlikely.
Former Leafs Nazem Kadri (#7), Ryan O’Reilly (#16), Timothy Liljegren (#20), & Michael Bunting (#26) are among the names on the big board, none linked to Toronto.
Former prospect Trevor Moore is named as an honorable mention.
