The Calgary Flames took a big step in their rebuild earlier this month when they made a bold trade, moving defenseman Rasmus Andersson to the Vegas Golden Knights. In return, Calgary picked up defenseman Zach Whitecloud, college prospect Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first-round pick, and a conditional 2028 second-round pick.
Recently, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Calgary is not done dealing and has more moves lined up before the trade deadline on March 6. Forwards Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri are two big names that are reportedly being discussed as potential trade candidates.
Friedman also pointed out that Calgary has only one salary retention slot remaining for the rest of the season. That is significant because both Coleman and Kadri are signed beyond this year, and retaining salary could be key to completing a deal. Coleman has one year left on his contract, while Kadri has three seasons remaining.
Amid this, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that Kadri and his camp have informed the Flames that he is open to being moved, even though no formal trade request has been made.
