(Eveleth, MN) — Residents rallied outside the U-S Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth on Saturday against plans to move it to St. Paul. Hundreds of Iron Range community members, including local and political leaders, spoke out against the proposed move. Some members of the hall of fame board of directors says the museum’s low visitor numbers, compared to other sporting hall of fames, are due to location. District 3 Democratic Senator Grant Hauschild of Hermantown says it should stay exactly where it is in Eveleth, where hockey began. An amendment prohibiting the use of state funds to relocate the U-S Hockey Hall of Fame failed to pass the Minnesota Senate on Friday.
