If the San Jose Sharks are to feel confident in a game against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers next time, they are going to need a bigger lead.
Not even a 3-0 lead in the third period was enough for the Sharks to fend off the reigning Western Conference champions, as the Oilers pulled off an incredible 4-3 come-from-behind victory via overtime at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Edmonton started its comeback bid when Leon Draisaitl found the back of the net 1:34 into the third frame. After a long scoreless stretch, McDavid cut the Oilers’ deficit down to one with a goal with under four minutes left in regulation. Evan Bouchard delivered the game-tying goal when he lit the lamp with only 59 seconds left in the final period.

Edmonton got the job done when Zach Hyman scored 1:06 into overtime off the assists from McDavid and Bouchard.

With that helper, McDavid had another 60-assist campaign in the NHL, putting him in extremely exclusive company.
Via the NHL’s official website: “Connor McDavid became the fifth player in NHL history to record 10 career 60-assist seasons, joining Wayne Gretzky (17), Paul Coffey (11), Ray Bourque (10) and Adam Oates (10).”
A three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner, McDavid is always expected to deliver for the Oilers, especially when they need points the most, and he proved that again with that game-winning play with Hyman and Bouchard.

The only season in McDavid’s NHL career in which he didn’t reach 60 assists was his 2015-16 rookie year, when he had 32 assists in 45 games.
