Martin Necas missed the Colorado Avalanche’s game Saturday afternoon in Detroit with a lower-body injury.

He is day-to-day with the injury, a team spokesman confirmed.

Necas has 22 goals and 62 points this season, which is second on the Avs and tied for 11th in the NHL. He has played almost exclusively on Colorado’s top line next to Nathan MacKinnon this season and since arriving in a late January 2025 trade from the Carolina Hurricanes for Mikko Rantanen.

Necas was one of 11 Avalanche players who had played in all 52 games before this contest against the Red Wings. He is one of eight Avs players who have been chosen to play for their countries at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

That tournament begins Feb. 11. Three of the eight Avs expected to play in the Olympics are currently injured. Defenseman Devon Toews is close to returning, and could play in one of Colorado’s final two games before the break — Monday against Detroit at home or Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks at Ball Arena. Captain Gabe Landeskog has skated with the team a couple of times, and coach Jared Bednar hasn’t ruled out his playing before the Olympics as well.
