Toronto entrusted Brandon Pridham to run things before Brad Treliving and he’s emerged again as a name who very well could take the job from him once again.
With all the talk about Brad Treliving and whether or not he has been the right fit for the Maple Leafs, it seems that his job could be on the line if the team doesn’t turn things around and especially if he neglects to improve the future going forward.
If the Maple Leafs do decide to cut ties with Treliving after a couple of unsuccessful seasons, it now becomes a question of who replaces him.
If Toronto needs a new GM, they already have one in waiting
They have a lot of assistant GM’s, and Jim Nill has been thrown around as a potential candidate this summer.
But the team doesn’t need to really look anywhere else besides their own front office because they have a potential diamond in the rough just waiting for a chance to run things:
Brandon Pridham is a guy who isn’t well known to the casual Leaf fan but for those in the know — he’s arguably one of their most important staff members.
Why Brandon Pridham deserves a shot
He’s seen it all and in his 15 years of experience in running the numbers and figuring out the best ‘bang for your buck’, he’s earned a great reputation as a salary cap guru.
This is someone responsible for some of the great deals we’ve seen recently, and he’s run the team before albeit briefly during the time between Dubas and Treliving.
The Maple Leafs played it safe with Brad Treliving, a respected and known GM with years of experience. While it was a great idea in theory, practically it’s failed miserably so far and fans are getting tired of the status quo.
It’s time to give Brandon Pridham a shot. They are already paying him the big bucks and he is doing a lot more work than he’s probably getting credit for.
He’s earned the chance to run this team and it’s time for MLSE to stop being scared and try something new for a change.
