The Minnesota Wild keep on rolling. After crushing Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in a 7-3 win n the road on Saturday, the Wild traveled back home and took down the Montreal Canadiens for a 4-3 overtime victory on Monday night at the Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes had his fingerprints all over that Minnesota win, as he posted three points, all coming from assists. He assisted on a first-period goal by Kirill Kaprizov. Hughes got another assist when Brock Faber lit the lamp in the second frame. Lastly, he had a helper when Kaprizov ended the contest with a game-winning score on the man advantage in overtime.

According to the official X account of the NHL’s public relations department, the 26-year-old Hughes has “tied the NHL benchmark for longest assist streak by a defenseman in their first season with a franchise, matching Tom Kurvers (1991-92 w/ NYI) and Tom Edur (1977-78 w/ PIT).”
The former James Norris Memorial Trophy winner has now recorded an assist in nine consecutive games.
With Hughes and Kaprizov running the show, Minnesota has two incredibly talented playmakers who can make a difference on a nightly basis, as the Canadiens learned.

“I mean, when you got two superstars like that passing each other the puck, they just play at a different level,” Faber said of the duo after the win over the Habs (via Jessi Pierce of NHL.com) .“They think at a different level. And, you know, there’s a reason they’ve clicked so much. They’re kind of on the same wavelength.”
Hughes and the Wild will look to keep it going when they start a three-game road trip this Wednesday against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
