Two of the more recent first overall draft picks from the NHL Draft will be sharing the ice on Monday night. 2023 first overall pick Connor Bedard and 2024 first overall pick Macklin Celebrini go head-to-head, with the San Jose Sharks (27-22-4) continuing a five-game road trip as they visit the Chicago Blackhawks (21-25-9). It’s the second-ever head-to-head meeting between the two, with Celebrini and the Sharks winning the first such matchup last year.

Celebrini is having a breakout year in his second NHL season. The 19-year-old has already well beyond surpassed his scoring production from last year. This season he has 27 points and 52 assists in 52 games. His 79 points are more than double the next-closest player on the roster.

Bedard is on pace for his own career-year in his third NHL season. He’s at 52 points through 42 games, with 22 goals and 30 assists. When it comes to goals in particular, his next goal will tie his previous career single season high, which he set last year.

Both of these teams come in trying to bounce back from a loss. The Sharks lost 3-2 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday and are now 1-1-1 on this homestand so far. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks had an extra day’s rest, with their last game being a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
