A National Hockey League insider has given a big update this week on the future of Adam Foote as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks amid the club’s rebuild.
Adam Foote’s first season as a head coach in the National Hockey League couldn’t have gone any worse as the Vancouver Canucks currently sit at the bottom of the standings with an 18-32-6 record through 56 games, seven points back of the next closest team, the St. Louis Blues.
“”I do trust the coaching staff and Adam Foote,” General Manager Patrik Allvin said recently.
He added, “There are pockets and stretches where we’re playing really well. There was a stretch of seven weeks in late November to early January when our penalty kill was really good, but that was based on you have your goalie and you’re fairly healthy. That being said, I don’t want to use excuses. Our job is to win hockey games and we need to get better, all of us. And I know the coaches are working on the solutions and working with the players to perform better, and we need to.”

During an appearance on Sekeres and Price this week, NHL insider Darren Dreger gave a big update on what he’s hearing about Adam Foote’s future in the Lower Mainland.
According to Darren Dreger, Vancouver Canucks management have no interest in making a coaching change at the moment, with Adam Foote expected to remain behind the bench for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, despite some wanting the club to make a change.
“Well they’re very supportive right now and you know, as you would expect. Foote is in constant conversation with both Patrik Allvin and Jimmy Rutherford day-by-day for sure and probably a number of times over the course of the day. So any concerns the management would have with his handling of one player versus another, that would be dealt with and talked about internally.” Dreger said.
He added, “I can tell you that as far as management’s standpoint right now, there’s no interest in removing Adam Foote as head coach.”
While a coaching change might not be coming any soon for the Vancouver Canucks, it’s certainly a conversation that needs to be had in the summer as to whether or not Adam Foote is the right head coach to lead the club through a rebuild.
