Sometimes it hurts off the ice too.

The Edmonton Oilers have lost the Stanley Cup finals twice in a row. In 2024, they were unable to triumph over the Florida Panthers. That defeat affected Connor McDavid deeply. According to BroBible, he was unable to rest easy after the team’s loss in the final.

In his interview, he discussed his bachelor’s party, which he was unable to enjoy owing to the lingering feelings from the Oilers’ defeat to the Panthers. For McDavid, the celebration turned into a moment of reflection again as his started discussing about the final game with his friends.

My buddies had planned my bachelor party a few days after the last possible game of the season. We happened to be in it. And we happened to lose it. So a few days after the game me and my buddies were on a plane to the Bahamas. I was not fun to be around. Looking back, I almost have to laugh now. Because, man, it was just a weird trip. We tried to play golf and it rained. So we sat around having a few beers at the clubhouse, and just talking about how sad we were about the series. We left after two nights.

After Terrorizing The Oilers For Two Years In A Row The Panthers May Not Even Make It To The Postseason This Year

The Florida Panthers were able to shut down the Oilers for two years consecutively in the Stanley Cup finals. This year, things look vastly different. The Oilers comfortably sit at fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Panthers are last in their division and are relying on a wild-card entry. Compared to them, the Oilers have a much better chance of making it to the Playoffs. The Oilers may have another chance at redemption this season.

“All I want to do is win. It’s all we think about in our room. It’s all we talk about in the off-season. It’s why I get up every morning. It’s why I’ve stayed in Edmonton for more than a decade.” – #Oilers Connor McDavid#LetsGoOilers pic.twitter.com/Hz246TKJtB

Connor McDavid is heavily invested in his team. As the first overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft, McDavid was labeled as a ‘Generational Talent.’ In the following years, Connor would go on to win the Ted Lindsay Award on four occasions and the Hart Memorial Trophy thrice, and secure the Conn Smythe Trophy for 2024.

McDavid is also one of the only six players to have won the Conn Smythe Trophy for a team that ended up losing the Stanley Cup finals. He still chose to commit to the Oilers by signing a two-year deal worth $25 million before the current season started.
