A Detroit Red Wings forward appears to have performed well enough recently to take himself off Steve Yzerman’s trade block.

At the end of last season, Marco Kasper impressed a lot of people. So much, in fact, that he was named rookie of the year in Detroit, after finishing his rookie season with 14 points in the last 18 games of the season.

At training camp, the organization had high hopes for Kasper, but he came out flat.

In the first half of the season, he tallied only six points, far from what was expected from him, which led to many trade rumors sending him out of Detroit.

However, in the past two weeks, Kasper seems to have found his footing again, which could be enough to convince Steve Yzerman to keep him.

Marco Kasper Finally Bounces Back After Tough Season Start

On January 16, the Wings faced the San Jose Sharks, and Kasper tallied two points: a goal and an assist.

In the eight games played since that night, he scored five points, which puts his total at seven points in nine games.

That can be explained by Todd McLellan’s decision to put Kasper on the top line alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond.

After being included in a lot of trade rumors over the past months, Yzerman could be tempted to keep him.

However, capitalizing on his increasing market value to make a big deal before the deadline could also be a smart move for the Wings.
