It’s unclear whether the Detroit Red Wings or any other NHL team will make a trade before today’s 3 p.m. ET Olympic roster.

GM Steve Yzerman has a long history of not allowing his trade ideas or plans to leak out before a deal is done. No one has a handle on what Yzerman is thinking. But others in the hockey world, with knowledge of trade discussions, say the Red Wings are being aggressive.

They may not complete a deal today, but it is likely they will add a top-four defenseman before the March 6 NHL Trade deadline.

The Red Wings are also interested a Top 6 forward, preferably a center. Fewer top-end forwards are available, meaning the chances of Detroit’s success are not as high.

Based on unconfirmed media reports, the Red Wings are looking at defensemen Justin Faulk, Connor Murphy, Brandon Carlo, Logan Stanley, MacKenzie Weeger, and Tyler Myers.

At forward, Artemi Panarin, Vince Trocheck, Ryan O’Reilly, and Nazem Kadri have been linked to Detroit interest.

After the Olympics, the Red Wings’ schedule will resume Feb. 26 at Ottawa. That means Detroit will play four post-Olympics games before the NHL trade deadline.
