Buffalo Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will no longer take part in the 25th Olympic Winter Games begin this week in Milan Cortina, Italy.
Last month, he was named to the Team Finland roster. He was expected to go into the Milan Cortina Games as the No. 3 goalie behind Juuse Saros and Kevin Lankinen. Finland named Joonas Korpisalo as an injury replacement.
However, Luukkonen suffered a lower body injury late last month.
While Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff says he is progressing, there is no timetable for a return.
Finland plays its first game Feb. 11 against Slovakia, then faces rival Sweden on Feb. 13 and host Italy on Feb. 14.
