Vancouver Canucks forward Teddy Blueger made some eye-opening comments about the team’s character after their loss on Wednesday night to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Over their last two games, the Canucks have given up 11 goals while scoring just four – two vs Utah, two vs Vegas and even though the club has made it known they’re entering a rebuilding phase, it’s still a bit frustration for fans to watch as they want to see a bit more effort night in, night out.

That frustration is also shared among those in the Vancouver Canucks’ dressing room, including from Teddy Blueger, one of the team’s top trade chips ahead of the deadline, as he made some interesting comments post-game on Wednesday.

Following last night’s loss, Teddy Blueger spoke with Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre where had some strong words for about his team’s play of late, saying that they really need to dig in and not give up when things aren’t going their way.

Blueger would go on to add he knows this group can get into the win column any night, but they really need to step it up, compete hard and find some character and in doing so, they’ll start earning respect around the league.

“You’ve got to dig in, try to compete and win every game. And we can’t get deflated and just stop playing when things aren’t going our way. I think we’ve got to find some character in our group. I know we have some good guys that want to win and know how to win and to compete and play hard, but I think we’ve got to find it as a team. Just find, you know, probably some more respect for each other, some appreciation to be in this league (and) not take that for granted, not just go through the motions because we’re last in the league. You know, come in and compete.” Teddy Blueger said to MacIntyre on Wednesday.

For someone that’s not part of the leadership to step up and say what everyone is thinking is great to see and especially coming from someone like Teddy Blueger, who has over 400 games of experience in this league and knows what it takes to win after hoisting the Stanley Cup with Vegas nearly three years ago.

Hopefully Teddy Blueger’s comments will light a fire under the Canucks and they’ll come out of the Olympic break ready to compete each and every night, with just 25 games separating the Vancouver Canucks between now and the end of the regular season.
