While the Vancouver Canucks do not have great hockey to show right now at Rogers Arena, the World Cup of Hockey might be making its way to Vancouver in 2028, as Vancouver is trying to host the tournament, competing against Edmonton, Calgary and Montreal.
“Jeff Paterson posted the ranking on X, and it’s not a pretty sight, while the location is the only bright spot of the ranking, Rogers Arena struggles in amenities, atmosphere and most of all affordability.”-Stinson
Best on best tournament could be coming to Vancouver.
Irfaan Gaffar posted on X that Vancouver is one of the leading cities to host the tournament. The last one being all the way back in 2016 hosted in Toronto, saw some of the best hockey we have ever witnessed. The tournament was capped off by Team Canada defeating Team Europe, but who can forget the North America team of under 24 year olds delivering some of the most exciting games in hockey history. And all of that excitement could be coming to Vancouver.
As @DarrenDreger pointed out Vancouver is one of the potential Canadian host cities for World Cup of hockey in 2028. Edmonton, Calgary (new arena) and Montreal also want in.
Vancouver already has experience in hosting an event like this, the last one being the 2010 Winter Games. A World Cup of Hockey is much easier to organize logistically. The only issues has been Rogers Arena itself lately, ownership will have to improve the amenities and start improving their reputation. Because there is no way the NHL will allow Vancouver to host if they cannot trust the arena.
