A Vancouver Canucks minor league affiliate has made a major announcement on Thursday regarding the club’s future at their current arena as they continue their push for the playoffs.

The last eight months have been a bit of a rollercoaster for the Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver’s American Hockey League affiliate, as they’ve gone from winning their first ever Calder Cup title last June all the way to the bottom of the Pacific Division standings as of Friday morning.

Granted, the club has lost a fair amount of key pieces to their roster with Arturs Silovs traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, while others like Aatu Raty have graduated to the National Hockey League now on a full-time basis.

Abbotsford Canucks make major announcement regarding their future at Rogers Forum

In a press release on Thursday, the Abbotsford Canucks announced, alongside the City of Abbotsford and Canucks Sports & Entertainment that an agreement has been reached on five-year extension of the club’s lease at Rogers Forum.

The team’s previous lease was set to expire following the 2026-27 season, but now the Canucks will run through the 2030-31 campaign, which is great news for fans and the city as the club generates plenty of revenue.

“The past five years at Rogers Forum have been outstanding, and we are excited to build on that momentum over the next five years through this extension. From incredible live events to thrilling hockey games, the atmosphere inside the building has been electric. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the fans and supporters who comprise this passionate community. We are grateful to continue calling Rogers Forum home and look forward to creating even more unforgettable memories with our fans in Abbotsford and across the Fraser Valley.” COO of Rogers Forum and Alternate Governor of the Abbotsford Canucks Jim Kozak said.

Now that that’s taken care of, the Abbotsford Canucks will turn their attention back to the ice as they look to ramp things up in February and close the gap between them and the Tucson Roadrunners for the final playoff spot in the AHL’s Pacific Division.
