The Vancouver Canucks sent a scout to watch a pair of Eastern Conference clubs earlier this week as trade talks around the National Hockey League heat up.
A trade/roster freeze is now in effect across the National Hockey League amid their three week break for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy and it’s safe to say the period between February 22nd at 8:59 pm PT and March 6th at 12 pm PT is going to be very busy for teams like the Vancouver Canucks.
“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts.” Rutherford said.

As the Vancouver Canucks continue to zone in on potential trade targets, Patrik Allvin has sent his scouts all across North America to find players that could fit in with their rebuilding plans.
According to Shawn Hutcheon of The Fourth Period, the Vancouver Canucks were among nine teams that had scouts in attendance at Tuesday night’s game between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers, with fellow Canadian clubs, the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, also having representatives at Amerant Bank Arena.
“The NHL Trade Deadline will be March 6, 2026, just a few days after the Olympics come to an end. With that in mind, tonight’s #BOSvsFLA game will be scouted by: LAK, MTL (2 scouts), CBJ (2 scouts), WPG (2 scouts), VAN, WSH, NYR, ANA, NJD” Hutcheon said on X.
After missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season for the first time since 2016 and with the club occupying the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference entering the Olympic break, they’re determined to return to the postseason.
Among those in Vancouver that could be of potential interest to the Boston Bruins include Conor Garland, Teddy Blueger and possibly Evander Kane, the latter two of whom have plenty of experience in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Potential targets for Patrik Allvin to consider in Boston are Matthew Poitras and John Beecher, although it might take a big offer to get the Bruins to part with the former, who was their second round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
