An executive with the Vancouver Canucks has been named as a potential replacement for Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz after he revealed that he’s retiring soon.
“I’ve been in pro sports in some shape or form probably for 40 years now, and there comes a time when you realize that a lot of the stuff you’ve done and you’ve been immersed, you can’t be sometimes present in both places. You can’t be present in your job and you can’t be present at home. I just felt there’s an end date.” Trotz said.
Trotz revealed that he will remain in his role with the Predators until a replacement is hired, which isn’t expected until after the trade deadline early next month and there’s already some talk about his potential successor, including one option from the Vancouver Canucks.

During Tuesday’s edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reacted to the news of Barry Trotz’s retirement and who could potentially replace him as the next General Manager of the Nashville Predators.
One name mentioned by Elliotte Friedman is Abbotsford Canucks General Manager and Vancouver Canucks Assistant General Manager Ryan Johnson, who has been with the organization since the 2013-14 season.
“Abbotsford #Canucks GM Ryan Johnson was name dropped by @FriedgeHNIC as one of many early possibilities for the #Preds GM job.
Built the Calder Cup winning team last year.” Noah Strang said.
Johnson, who spent two seasons in Vancouver as a player, worked his way up from a development coach role 13 years ago all the way up to the Canucks’ Assistant General Manager and after leading the Abbotsford Canucks to a Calder Cup championship last season, it’s no surprise that he’s starting to garner interest from other NHL clubs.
The 49-year-old is going to face some stiff competition if he wants to land that role in Nashville as some other names to keep an eye on include Kevyn Adams, Brendan Shanahan and even former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Marc Bergevin, who was only hired recently by the Buffalo Sabres.
