The NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Detroit Red Wings made a big push to sign one of the most coveted free agents.
The Detroit Red Wings haven’t made many significant additions to the team in free agency last summer. Albeit James van Riemsdyk, Mason Appleton, and Jacob Bernard-Docker have provided valuable services to the organization, fans hoped to see Yzerman do more to bolster the team ahead of the start of the season.
In the end, it turned out well. The Wings are among the top teams in the Atlantic Division, in a position to make the playoffs with just over 20 games left in the regular season.
However, a new report revealed Detroit was in the derby to land one of the best available centers that would’ve brought a lot of depth at the center position back in 2022.
Friedman Reveals Wings ‘Went Hard’ To Get Vincent Trocheck In Free Agency
On July 13, 2022, Trocheck signed a seven-year contract with the New York Rangers valued at $39.375 million.
In the latest written edition of 32 Thoughts, the insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Wings ‘went hard’ at Trocheck, but the Rangers beat them.
He shared that information after adding details on the Artemi Panarin trade to the Los Angeles Kings.
According to him, the Kings were also interested in getting Trocheck, as the team needs a center and wanted to make a deal involving both Trocheck and Panarin.

The 32-year-old veteran tallied 36 points, including 12 goals, in 43 games with the Rangers this season.
The Wings would be a very different team with him on the second- or third-line center spot.
But it’s not too late to bring him to Detroit. Would you like to see Yzerman pursue him on the trade market?
