A former Vancouver Canucks forward has given his thoughts on the team’s overall culture at the moment following Teddy Blueger’s post-game comments on Wednesday.

The Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their pre-Olympic portion of their schedule on Wednesday night against the Vegas Golden Knights and unfortunately, Adam Foote’s group lost by a score of 5-2.

Forward Teddy Blueger wasn’t too happy after the game, questioning his team’s effort and character, saying that they just can’t stop playing when things don’t go their way, that they need to dig deep and compete hard if they want to earn any respect around the league.

“You’ve got to dig in, try to compete and win every game. And we can’t get deflated and just stop playing when things aren’t going our way. I think we’ve got to find some character in our group. I know we have some good guys that want to win and know how to win and to compete and play hard, but I think we’ve got to find it as a team. Just find, you know, probably some more respect for each other, some appreciation to be in this league (and) not take that for granted, not just go through the motions because we’re last in the league. You know, come in and compete.” Blueger said post-game to Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre.

Ex-Vancouver Canuck shares his thoughts on team’s culture following Teddy Blueger’s comments

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen, who has been quite vocal about this team and decisions made in recent months, was a guest on Canucks Central recently where he gave his thoughts on the team’s culture amid Teddy Blueger’s comments.

“I think we need to pack the culture word away for quite a while because that won’t come around until this team is on an upward trajectory, then we can start talking about it again, about doing all the things right. Right now, you’re accumulating draft picks and yeah, you cannot trade everybody, you need NHL players to play with these young guys that are coming in. I think you still need to move three or four more preferably, maybe not four but three I could see no problem and then you fill these veteran spots through UFAs with guys that need a fresh start, guys that need a “show me” contract, guys that have done well in the past and were maybe expecting a longer term deal but nobody was offering, you could offer shorter here for a little bit more money, “show me” kind of thing. But that’s really the cycle you’re into now.” Hansen said.

The Canucks need to find their identity as well and in order to build a positive environment and culture in their locker room, they need to surround these young players that are the future of the franchise with veterans that they can rely on for advice or help as they navigate their respective careers.
