Syracuse, N.Y. — Four-time defending champion West Genesee was slotted as the No. 1 seed in Division I at the Section III boys hockey playoff meeting on Sunday.

The Wildcats (15-4-1) are trailed by No. 2 RFA (16-3-1) and No. 3 Syracuse (12-7), No. 4 Cicero-North Syracuse (10-10) and No. 5 Baldwinsville (13-4-3).

West Genesee, RFA and Syracuse won’t know their quarterfinal opponents until play-in games this week are finished. The Northstars and the Bees square off in a quarterfinal Feb. 18.

The play-in games are: No. 7 Fayetteville-Manlius (9-9-2) vs. No. 10 Mohawk Valley (3-17) on Wednesday; No. 6 Cazenovia (12-5-2) vs. No. 11 Ontario Bay (4-13-1) on Thursday; and No. 8 Watertown IHC (10-9-1) vs. No. 9 CNY Fusion (4-15) on Thursday.

The Division II pairings won’t be set until later this week because some teams still have makeup games. Skaneateles is the three-time defending state champ in Division II.

The finals for both divisions will be held March 2 at Upstate Medical Arena at the Oncenter War Memorial.
