One of the top Detroit Red Wings prospects was removed from the AHL All-Star Game lineup due to an injury.

The Grand Rapids Griffins are the best team in the AHL this season. They have 73 points after 45 games, with only 10 total losses following their historic start to the season.

It was only logical to see a few members of the team being sent to the AHL All-Star Game, which is set to go down on February 10 and 11 in Rockford.

Indeed, early this year, it was confirmed that three players would represent the Griffins: Dominik Shine, Sebastian Cossa, and John Leonard.

Today, it was confirmed that one of them wouldn’t be able to go due to an injury.

Grand Rapids Griffins Player To Miss AHL All-Star Game With Injury

The Rockford IceHogs forward Brett Seney is set to take his place:

A reporter covering the Griffins confirmed that an injury is the cause of Leonard’s absence:

Leonard got injured in a game against the Chicago Wolves on January 30, and hasn’t returned to the lineup since.

In 32 games with the Griffins this season, the 27-year-old winger tallied 40 points, including 26 goals.

As for Seney, Leonard’s replacement, he tallied 35 points in 41 games with the IceHogs this season.

Among the other notable players set to compete in the All-Star Game, top AHL scorer Laurent Dauphin, alongside one of the top NHL goalie prospects Jacob Fowler, will represent the Laval Rocket, featuring other top talents like Ilya Protas, Arthur Kaliyev, Conor Geekie, Quinn Hutson, Dimitri Kurashev, and many more.

Stay tuned for updates on the AHL All-Star Game and the Griffins.
