The city of Buffalo is making progress following a massive water main break on Wednesday night near the Black Rock neighborhood.
City officials announced late Friday night that the intersection of Military Road and Hertel Avenue has completely reopened to regular traffic in all directions.
They say traffic signals are fully operational and drivers have resumed their normal traffic patterns there.
“I want to thank the Department of Public Works and every crew member who responded quickly and worked tirelessly to complete emergency repairs and reopen this critical intersection within 48 hours for our residents and businesses,” Mayor Sean Ryan said in a statement.
The water main break caused severe flooding in several blocks, leaving dozens trapped in their vehicles and buildings surrounded by water.
A portion of the street collapsed due to the break, causing an NFTA bus to become stuck. All passengers were removed safely and no one was injured, city officials said.
