The Detroit Red Wings have officially announced their television broadcast plans for the 2026-27 NHL season.

Expectations are that FanDuel Sports Network Detroit will cease to exist at the conclusion of the current campaign. Red Wings broadcasts will be moving to a streaming service operated by Major League Baseball.

“Ilitch Sports & Entertainment has entered a first-of-its-kind partnership with Major League Baseball, which will provide broadcast support to both the Detroit Tigers (beginning with the 2026 MLB season) and the Detroit Red Wings (starting with the 2026-27 NHL season),” the Red Wings announced in a media release.

The Red Wings suggested that little else will change in terms of how the broadcasts will look in comparison to the current format.

“This partnership will create a new platform where fans throughout our home television territory can watch games when and where they want, through the same options as have been recently available,” the team announced.

The league would be handling production and distribution. A requirement of each team will be arranging deals with local TV stations to carry broadcasts of games. Teams would also be responsible for selling advertising and streaming packages.

“Information on cable/satellite providers and streaming subscriptions [are] to be announced at a later date.

Changes Aren’t Expected To Red Wings Broadcasts This Season

Main Street Sports Group, the owner of FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, is in financial trouble. They didn’t make a broadcast rights payment that was due on February 1.

The anticipation is that Main Street Sports will be continuing to deliver Red Wings broadcasts for the remainder of this season.

“Red Wings coverage on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit is expected to continue through the end of the 2025-26 season,” the team reported. “In the event that changes, updated tune, updated tune-in details will be communicated to fans.”

The Red Wings briefly explored launching their own television network in 2018. However, that plan never advanced beyond the back burner.

Production of both the MLB Network and NHL Network broadcasts operates out of the MLB studios in Secaucus, New Jersey.
