Should the Avalanche target a Toronto centerman to help bolster their lineup? Cale Makar is part of Team Canada’s leadership group. Also, a new steaming home for the Detroit Red Wings and reasons why the Pittsburgh Penguins are having a great year.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — February 9.

Colorado Hockey Now

The excitement for the Olympics has finally started to settle in. At least for me. I love that the NHL set up the break so players have basically six or seven days between their last NHL game and the opening game of the Olympic tournament.

But at the same time, it’s almost crazy to think that the first game is on Feb. 11 and the Gold Medal final is on Feb. 22. Once it starts, it’s going to be a spring.

Shifting back to the NHL, the Avs are still in need of a 3C. And they’re likely going to trade for one between the end of the trade freeze and the March 6 trade deadline.

Should they look in Toronto for help?

Cale Makar is going to assume the same role he did at 4 Nations, wearing the alternate captain’s ‘A’ alongside Connor McDavid.
