SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Hockey Club closed out its three-game homestand with a gut-punch of a loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.

Utah came into the matchup with three wins in four games as well as a three-game win streak at Delta Center. Each and every win has been a necessity as the club sits a few spots down from the Western Conference Wild Card.

The Hockey Club struck first with Detroit in town. Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther connected in the opening minutes to make it 1-0. The Red Wings went on to score one unanswered in the second period and then three more in the third.

Utah will now embark on a three-game road trip with stops in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Chicago.

Another original six team means a decent number of opposing fans.

Lots of red in the building tonight.#UtahHC #LGRW pic.twitter.com/iWCYjpWb9B

If the Utah Hockey Club is able to get a win over the Red Wings tonight, they’ll tie their season point total from a year ago (77) with 11 games remaining on their schedule this year.

Progress 📈📈📈

First Period

Mrazek is hurt after a great rush opportunity from Dylan Guenther in close.

Mrazek took an awkward spill and immediately went to the bench.

Lyon has replaced him in net for #LGRW

GUENTHER SCORES ON THE POWER PLAY!!!!!!

WHAT A PASS FROM KELLER.

1-0 UTAH!

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) March 25, 2025

This is one of the most impressive goals the club has scored all season.

Watch Keller’s head before he delivers the puck. He takes a quick look for Guenther, sees he’s there, delivers a perfect pass, and Guenther buries it.

That’s pretty. pic.twitter.com/rab6RQxiul

Schmaltz just got robbed by Lyon right in the slot.

Great setup but an even better save.

Game remains tied.

Marino to the box for high sticking.

Detroit will have their first power play of the night.

Guenther has looked incredibly dangerous tonight.

In addition to his goal, he’s had several chances in close off the rush. He’s flying out there.

Second Period

Red Wings score on a lucky bounce.

2-1 Detroit. They have 3 shots in the game…

Lyons with two unreal saves to keep the Red Wings ahead.

Stopped a breakaway by Lawson Crouse and then immediately after a 1 on 1 situation with Stenlund.

We’ll see how this game pans out but for now, biggest plays of the game.

Red Wings back to full strength.

Abysmal power play by Utah.

Too much passing and several poor zone entries. https://t.co/tVJLoNq5eV

Granted Utah hasn’t played their best hockey but Detroit has no business leading this game.

They have 5 shots on goal…but unfortunately one bad mistake and a lucky bounce will do that. https://t.co/T9gYPDAVe1

3-1 Red Wings…it’s not looking good for Utah.

10:09 to go.

Awful puck luck tonight.

Just one of those games. https://t.co/0ZzkwpEjsj

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) March 25, 2025

Empty netter for Detroit.

4-1 Red Wings. That will do it.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) March 25, 2025

A Red Wings fan just threw an octopus on the ice after the empty netter.

Very Detroit and the away fans loved it.

— Cole Bagley (@BagleyKSLsports) March 25, 2025

5-1 Detroit.

Not an empty netter.
