MLSE head honcho Keith Pelley took some time on Friday to address the evolving situation between the Maple Leafs and pending UFA Mitch Marner.
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ season ended in extremely disappointing fashion, suffering a 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the second round. The defeat has sparked widespread speculation about potential changes, as it’s clear that something needs to give.
One major move has already been made in the dismissal of Brendan Shanahan, who served as team president for 11 years. Shanahan is reportedly drawing interest from across the league.
Following a board meeting on Thursday, MLSE CEO Keith Pelley addressed the media on Friday, touching on the Marner situation, and his lack of confidence regarding the Marner negotiations adds further fuel to the speculation that he may be as good as gone.
