Jim Robson, the legendary voice of the Vancouver Canucks for more than three decades, has passed away at the age of 91.

Robson was the Canucks’ first play-by-play announcer when the franchise entered the National Hockey League in 1970.

Robson also called games for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, including Bob Nystrom’s Stanley Cup-winning overtime goal for the New York Islanders in 1980 – the first of the team’s four straight championships.

But Robson made his biggest mark in Vancouver, calling some of the franchise’s most memorable moments including the team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final in 1982 and in 1994.

Robson was named recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award and was honoured by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992, was inducted into the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998 and went into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

The broadcast booth in Vancouver’s Rogers Arena is named in his honour.
