The Boston Bruins added an intriguing prospect in a trade at last season’s trade deadline when the club acquired talented forward Will Zellers from Colorado in exchange for forward Charlie Coyle. In his only season in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers, Zellers tallied 44 goals and 27 assists in 52 games while being named USHL Player of the Year. Now, as a freshman at the University of North Dakota, the Minnesota native is continuing to show tremendous offensive potential.

On Saturday, Zellers scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-1 win over Minnesota-Duluth. The 6-foot, 180-pound forward has been an offensive threat from the start of the season and currently has 14 goals and nine assists in 27 games. Zellers has compiled four goals and two assists in his last four games, along with 12 shots on net. Zellers has recorded at least one shot in all 27 games and has recorded 80 on the season.

The 2024 third-round draft pick also excelled in the 2025 World Junior Championships with fellow Bruins prospect James Hagens. Zellers was one of the top United States performers with five goals and three assists in five games and was a plus-6 for the tournament.

Zellers is an excellent skater who can shoot the puck and create space offensively. His defensive game still needs improvement, but offensively, Zellers is a threat every shift. The Bruins Benders Podcast has Zellers as the number 5 prospect in the Bruins system. Expect Zellers to play at least one more season at North Dakota as he turns 20 years old in April. The future is bright for Will Zellers, who has a chance to be an impact player in Boston in the future.
