A National Hockey League insider has revealed some big news regarding the Vancouver Canucks’ trade plans leading up to the deadline with their veteran players.
Vancouver is expected to part ways with most, if not all of their pending unrestricted free agents before the trade deadline, but are also open to listening to offers on all their players according to the team’s President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford.
“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts.” Rutherford said last month.
Insider gives big update about Vancouver Canucks’ trade plans with veteran players
Despite the Vancouver Canucks listening on their veteran players, it doesn’t look like any of them will be moved before 12 pm PT on March 6th, unless General Manager Patrik Allvin is blown away by an offer.
In a recent article for The Athletic, Thomas Drance shared that Patrik Allvin isn’t shopping his veteran players at the moment, but the club does remain open to considering all of their options over the next month.
“Even though the Canucks feel firmly that they have to be open to everything…the club isn’t proactively pursuing deals that would see it shed a high-salaried veteran with term.” Drance said.
He added, “Patrik Allvin…isn’t shutting down conversations concerning Vancouver’s more established veteran players. But he’s not proactively shopping the veterans with term.”
This news comes as a bit of a surprise as the Canucks have players with term that would certainly draw interest on the trade market, some of which already have such as Conor Garland, with Jake DeBrusk, Elias Pettersson and Tyler Myers being others that have seen their names enter the rumor mill over the last little bit.
However, given that these players have term, the Canucks aren’t in any rush to move them and could even wait until around the draft in June, but also have to for someone like Conor Garland, his no-movement clause goes into effect as of Canada Day and trading him after that date will be quite difficult.
