NHL prospect and Vancouver Canucks draft pick Kieren Dervin has been impressive so far in his first full year with the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL, coming St. Andrews College, Dervin hasn’t missed a beat at the next level.

“Amid their plans to rebuild, the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to get younger and have the right pieces in place to be a sustainable, competitive hockey club in the coming years.”-Jaxon

Kieren Dervin is developing into a solid NHL prospect.

Chris Faber of NHL.com reported on Dervin’s progression this season in Kingston, so far he leads the team in points with 30 in 39 games. The Frontenacs are not one of the favourites to head to the Memorial Cup, but Dervin has been one of the bright spots of the team so far.

“Dervin has been in constant communication with Canucks development coaches Mikael Samuelsson and Mike Komisarek throughout the season. Their experience has helped Dervin as he navigated a mid-season injury that kept him out for three weeks. In his last 10 games, Dervin has picked up four goals and five assists and is back to playing with the high level of confidence he had earlier in the season.”-Faber

The Canucks are in need of some offensive talent in the coming years, and if Dervin can turn into a third or maybe even a second line forward that provides scoring depth, the Canucks will have made an excellent pick. The only real offensive talents they have currently are Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson, and both are on course for very poor seasons, and might even be getting traded. The Canucks will have a lot of work to do rebuilding their offence.
