Winnipeg Jets’ defenseman Josh Morrissey’s 2026 Winter Olympic experience has gotten off to a rocky start as he exited Canada’s opening game with an injury.
Morrissey left the Canadian bench early in the second period of Thursday’s game versus Czechia and did not return. There are a couple of possibilities when it comes to the injury’s cause; he took a check from Ondrej Palat in his only shift of the second period and “clanked legs” with Martin Necas late in the first, Michael Russo reported.
Josh Morrissey left the game partway through today’s second period. Cruel, particularly after missing the 4 Nations final due to illness. Hoping for good news on his health.
He’d been good, too. Just excellent 1v1 D against Pastrnak in the first. He belongs at this level.

While his absence reduced Canada’s contingency of blue liners to six for the remainder of the contest, Canada captured a 5-0 victory.
Morrissey began the game skating on the second pairing with Colton Parayko and logged 7:10 of ice time in 13 shifts prior to his exit.

Ideally, his injury is not serious and he’ll be back in action for Canada’s next game of the preliminary round, which takes place Friday, Feb. 13 versus Switzerland.
