Syracuse, N.Y. — Upstart Whitesboro holds the lead position heading into the Section III Division II boys hockey playoffs, according to the bracket that was finalized Friday night.
Whitesboro brings a 13-7 mark into the postseason and is slotted just ahead of No. 2 Skaneateles (16-4). The Lakers are chasing their fourth-straight state championship.
Whitesboro and Skaneateles split a pair of meetings this season, with Whitesboro claiming the first contest 4-1 and the Lakers bouncing back for a 4-3 decision in the rematch.
Whitesboro opens against No. 8 Oswego (5-13-1), a game that takes on added intrigue after the Buccaneers upset Whitesboro on Tuesday.
The eight-team field begins play with quarterfinals Wednesday. The championship game is March 2 at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
