As the Vancouver Canucks continue with their plans to rebuild, one potential trade target for Patrik Allvin could be a top prospect from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This year’s trade deadline is going to be a very interesting one for the Vancouver Canucks after the club declared their plans to rebuild and informed teams around the National Hockey League that they’re open for business, not just on their pending UFAs as originally revealed in late-November.
During the initial phase of the team’s rebuild, the Vancouver Canucks want to get younger and will do so by seeking out packages that include prospects and draft picks that’ll be able to help them whenever the club becomes competitive again, whether that be two, three or four years down the line.
“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” GM Patrik Allvin said.
Tampa Bay Lightning top prospect suggested as possible trade target for Vancouver Canucks
With there being more buyers than sellers leading up to this year’s trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks are poised to get a nice return in any of their deals prior to March 6th.
One team to keep an eye on is the Tampa Bay Lightning, who would like to make another push for a Stanley Cup with their aging core, but don’t have a ton asset-wise to work with other than a handful of prospects.
Among those prospects General Manager Julien BriseBois could look to part with is Conor Geekie, a former first rounder of the Arizona Coyotes that was traded to the Lightning as part of the package for defenseman Mikhail Sergachev.
“If James is off-limits because he’s already providing NHL value as a cheap, young asset, then the Canucks could turn their attention to Conor Geekie. Geekie, the No. 11 pick in 2022, was acquired from Utah as part of the Mikhail Sergachev trade.” Drance and Dayal said.
They added, “Geekie’s skating is a weakness, but his size, hands, and shot give him a legitimate chance of developing into an impactful middle-six forward.”
Geekie, a native of Strathclair, Manitoba, has spent the majority of the 2025-26 season in the American Hockey League and has taken a big step forward offensively, registering 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) in 40 games.
Circling back to the point that Tampa Bay would like to add at the trade deadline, Conor Geekie could be dangled as trade bait and the Vancouver Canucks certainly have some pieces that would help the Lightning, whether it be a pending UFA such as Teddy Blueger or someone with term like Conor Garland.
