For Kevin Fiala, the Swiss-born forward, the worst-case outcome has unfolded after yesterday’s incident with Tom Wilson at the Olympics.
Yesterday, we reported on a collision between Canada’s Tom Wilson and Switzerland’s Kevin Fiala.
The two became entangled near the boards, and an unfortunate incident occurred as the two collided.
Through no fault of his own, Fiala’s knee would bear the brunt of the impact.
We have an update on the status of Fiala, thanks to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman.
It’s not the outcome fans or Fiala would want to hear, either, as this injury was season-ending.
“One update from last night: Kevin Fiala is having surgery this morning in Italy.
No clarity yet on exact injury, but, unfortunately, it will be season-ending. All the best to him in his recovery.”
Kevin Fiala’s 2025-26 season with Switzerland and the Los Angeles Kings
Kevin Fiala suited up for Switzerland in this year’s Olympics with the intent of winning a gold medal for his country.
However, after all is said and done, he’ll have to recuperate and watch from the sidelines, as he’ll go under the knife in Italy today to repair the undisclosed injury from last night.
He’s played 56 games with the Kings this year and scored 40 points (18-22), and won’t be playing hockey again this season after last night.
In Milan, Italy, he’s played 2 games and scored 1 point (1 A) for the Swiss Olympic team.
