The 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics are in full swing, and it was another busy day in Italy. Here are the top stories we’re watching today:
Jordan Stolz breaks Olympic record, wins second gold in 500 meters
Stolz is the future of U.S. speedskating. He’s also the man of the moment. The 21-year-old Kewaskum, Wisconsin, native won his second gold in the second of his four events at this year’s Games, taking first place in the 500 meters with an Olympic record 33.77. Stolz’s next chance to add to his medal collection is Thursday, in the men’s 1500 meters, and then next weekend in the mass start.

Team USA tops Denmark 6-3
In a game that was a bit close for comfort at times, the United States ultimately came out on top 6-3 to go 2-0 in pool play. Six different players scored: Matt Boldy, Brady Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin, Jake Guentzel and Jack Hughes. Team USA had more than double Denmark’s shots on goal (47 to 21).
Cory Thiesse, U.S. women’s curling riding high after another win
After a big win over Canada on Friday, U.S. women’s curling kept things rolling on Saturday with a 7-4 win over Japan, breaking open a tight match in the eighth end for the victory. That improves Team USA to 3-1 in the round-robin session of the tournament. Only Sweden, undefeated at 3-0, is ahead of them in the standings.

Lindsey Vonn announced via Instagram on Saturday that her latest surgery went well and she plans to return to the U.S.
The 41-year-old American skier fractured her left leg 13 seconds into her downhill race Sunday. Vonn had previously trained on a torn ACL in the same left leg, an injury she suffered just days before the start of the Olympics. She had her fourth surgery on Saturday and could need more procedures done once she returns to the U.S.
Despite how things ended, Vonn wrote that her ACL tear had nothing to do with her crash and that she did not want her fans to feel sad.

Team USA might have it on a formula to get it through the rough stretches of these Olympics: When all else fails, just add Brady.
Brady Tkachuk threw hands late in the first period, then threw an equalizer into the net halfway through the second to rally a frustrated Team USA to a key 6-3 victory over Denmark. Six different Americans scored, a necessary if erratic and late-arriving offensive explosion.
But not all wins are victories. This was a sloppy, subpar effort from a United States team that needs to be playing at a much higher level if it hopes to bring home a gold against Canada. When your All-Star squad is getting pushed around by a team with only five current NHL players and prospects on its roster, there’s work to be done between now and the knockout rounds.

Denmark played the U.S. tough in the first period and closed the margin to one goal at the end of the second.
But Team USA increased its offensive pressure in the Danish zone, resulting in five goals over the final two periods and an eventual 6-3 victory.
Six players scored goals for the U.S.: Matt Boldy, Brady Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin, Jake Guentzel and Jack Hughes. Team USA fired 47 shots on net, while Denmark managed 21.
Up next for the U.S. is Germany on Sunday at 3:10 p.m. ET.

Denmark switched goaltenders late in the third period, replacing Mats Sogaard with Frederik Dichow. But Team USA is still scoring goals.
The U.S. increased its lead to 6-3 on a Jack Hughes score. Hughes stole the puck at center ice and attacked the net on a breakaway. He banked the puck in the net off the backside of Dichow.

Team USA has opened its lead back up to two goals on a Jake Guentzel score.
The U,S, kept pressure on in the Denmark zone, moving the puck around and getting shots off from a variety of angles. Auston Matthews finally pounced on a loose puck besides the net and found Guentzel in front of the net for a quick slap shot.

Though Denmark’s Mats Sogaard has allowed four goals, he’s faced 31 shots by the U.S.
Compare that to USA goalie Jeremy Swayman giving up three goals on 12 shots. In at least two instances, Swayman appeared to lose sight of the puck, either as it traveled above the boards or he was screened by a teammate in front. ofthe net.

Denmark scored just before the end of the second period, gaining a foothold back into a game that the U.S. was dominating.
Phillip Bruggisser slaps a shot past Jeremy Swayman from the circle. The U.S. goalie appeared to have been screened by teammate J.T. Miller on the shot and couldn’t see the puck.
Regardless, it was an important goal for Denmark, halting Team USA’s momentum right before intermission.

Noah Hanifin has given Team USA a 4-2 lead, wristing in a long rebound give up by Denmark goalie Mads Sogaard.
Vincent Trocheck slapped a shot on goal that Sogaard blocked, but the puck caromed out to the circle and Hanifin pounced on the ricochet.

Team USA’s Brady Tkachuk tried to fire up his team by mixing it up with Denmark players as their game went to the first intermission.
That tactic appears to have worked. At least it fired up Tkachuk, who scored six minutes into the second period to tie the score at 2-2. He whips a shot in after Jack Eichel won a face-off.

All four American freestyle skiers fail to qualify in the freeski Big Air event. Team USA’s best chance was Grace Henderson but after she fell on her final run, she finished 14th. Only 12 skiers advance to the final.
China’s Eileen Gu finishes second to Canada’s Megan Oldham, with Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud placing third.

The U.S. women’s curling team broke open a tight match in the eighth end for a 7-4 victory. That improves Team USA to 3-1 in the round-robin session of the tournament. Only Sweden, undefeated at 3-0, is ahead of them in the standings.
Tara Peterson turned the match by stealing three points in that eighth end, putting USA up 7-3. Prior to that, the two teams played blank ends in the first and seventh. But the U.S. held a narrow 4-3 lead with Tabitha Peterson getting a point in the sixth end.

Denmark regains the lead over the U.S., 2-1, with a slapshot by Nick Jensen from nearly center ice beating Jeremy Swayman.
Was that a shot by Jensen or more of a pass to get the puck into USA’s end? Regardless, Swayman lost sight of the puck and it got past him.

Denmark took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Nick Oleson with 1:40 played in the first period.
However, the U.S. tied the score nearly two minutes later. Matt Boldy got his own rebound then scored on a wraparound goal, catching Mads Sogaard way out of position.
