USA and Germany meet Sunday in Olympic hockey action at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena in Milan, Italy. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET (USA Network / Peacock). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the USA vs. Germany and make our expert hockey picks and predictions.

The United States opened with a 5-1 win over Latvia Thursday, and followed that up with a 6-3 victory over Denmark Saturday. USA actually trailed 1-0, and 2-1 after the first period. However, the Americans netted 3 goals in the second period, with s Brady Tkachuk, F Jack Eichel and D Noah Hanifin flipping the ice, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. USA never relinquished the lead, as F Jake Guentzel and F Jack Hughes scored in the third to put a bow on the scoring. G Jeremy Swayman coughed up 3 goals to 3 non-NHL players across 21 shots.

Germany posted a 3-1 win Thursday against Denmark, but it suffered a stunning 4-3 loss against Latvia Saturday. F Lukas Reichel and F Tim Stutzle scored goals, while D Lukas Kälble added a goal and an assist. Superstar C Leon Draisaitl had an assist with 10 shots on goal and a plus-2 rating, too, while Stutzle finished with 5 SOG. G Philipp Grubauer was peppered for 4 goals on 22 shots, however.

Grubauer is expected to start for Germany, as he looks to bounce back. We’ve seen G Connor Hellebuyck in the win over Latvia, and Swayman was shaky against Denmark. Is it time for G Jake Oettinger to make his first appearance, in the final game before the quarterfinals round?

USA 5, Germany 2

Risky 11 times your potential return to back USA (-1100) is a crazy amount of risk for a standalone bet or as part of a multi-leg parlay.

Team USA is playing for the No. 1 overall seed, battling with Canada. If Canada tops France, and USA tops Germany, the top spot will be based on goal differential. Canada enters Sunday’s play at plus-9, and it faces France, with a minus-7. USA, with a plus-7, faces Germany, with a plus-1.

Still, AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

GERMANY +3.5 (-150) is worth a look, even though USA could be going all out to impress in goal differential.

Still, the Germans have an NHL goaltender in Grubauer, and a world-class players in Draisaitl, although it is also a team which lost to a Latvian team USA dominated.

OVER 6.5 (-120) is a decent play in Game No. 3 for both sides.

USA is looking to impress, and it could pile up the shots and goals on Grubauer and a mostly non-NHL defense in front of him. Germany could strike, though, especially on the power play.
