Macklin Celebrini made history with one of his two goals in Team Canada’s 10-2 rout over Team France on Sunday at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

The Sharks star scored his first goal of the day, and third in the Olympics, on a penalty shot at the 17:16 mark in the second period to extend Team Canada’s lead over Team France to 5-1.

With that goal, Celebrini became the first NHL player to score on a penalty shot in the Olympics.

Macklin Celebrini is the first NHL player to score on a penalty shot in the Olympics. The others who have attempted are Alexei Yashin (’98), Milan Hejduk (’06), Sidney Crosby (’10), Corey Perry (’14) and Patrick Kane (’14). Kane attempted two in the bronze medal game in 2014.

Four goals later, with Canada leading France 9-2 in the third, Celebrini notched his second score of the game at the 11:47 mark of the third period.

Canada went on to beat France 10-2 to improve to 3-0-0 in the preliminary round, securing a top spot in Group A and advancing to the quarterfinals.

In three games, Celebrini recorded six points (four goals, two assists) for Team Canada.
