The United States men’s hockey team has made it through group play undefeated after defeating Germany on Sunday.
The American squad had previously beaten Latvia and Denmark, and now will punch their ticket automatically to the quarterfinals thanks to their 5-1 triumph Sunday.
While Team USA’s opponent has not yet been determined for the quarterfinals, their performances in group play have their fans dreaming of what would be just their third-ever gold medal in men’s hockey, though significant challenges remain ahead.

How has the U.S. fared so far in the tournament?
The U.S. got off to a slow start in each of their first two games against Latvia and Denmark but quickly turned things around, winning by scores of 5-1 and 6-3 to put themselves in position to secure an automatic berth in the quarterfinals.
They then followed that up Sunday with a strong win over Germany, propelling themselves into the final eight teams of the tournament.
The United States has gotten strong play from a variety of offensive stars, including Brady Tkachuk, who played a huge role in the team defeating Denmark on Saturday.
Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews scored a pair of goals against Germany, and Brock Nelson netted a pair of goals against Latvia in the opening game.
When will the United States play again?
Thanks to their win over Germany on Sunday, the United States will automatically advance to the quarterfinal round, as they topped their group.
Canada will also advance to the quarterfinals, and the two teams will be on a collision course in the gold medal game if they can win their two knockout round games to get there.
Those quarterfinal games will take place on Wednesday, with opponents to be determined.

What does the schedule look like?
On Tuesday, there will be four qualification play-off games to determine the other four teams that will be in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Those quarterfinal games will all take place on Wednesday, with puck drop set for 5:10 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 11:10 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Central time.
The hockey semifinals will take place on Friday, with game times at 9:40 a.m. and 2:10 p.m.
The men’s hockey bronze medal game will be played on Saturday at 1:40 p.m., and the gold medal game will take place next Sunday at 7:10 a.m., with the Olympic closing ceremonies set to follow.
