Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is in Italy with Team USA, chasing Olympic gold — but this isn’t the first time the Olympian has made unforgettable memories there.
McAvoy previously visited Italy in 2022 for former Bruins goalie, Tuukka Rask’s wedding in Lake Como.
McAvoy was already planning to propose that summer, and when he found out they would be in Italy, he thought, “I have to do it there.”
Charlie McAvoy, one of the NHL’s most charitable players, learned the value of hard work from his father Charles McAvoy Sr., who runs a four-generation plumbing business.
Before the wedding festivities began, which McAvoy has referred to as “the coolest wedding he’s ever been to,” McAvoy and his then-girlfriend Kiley Sullivan vacationed in Capri along with former Bruins captain Brad Marchand and his wife, Katrina.
While in Capri, McAvoy told Marchand his proposal plans, insisting he needed to do it in Capri. Marchand told McAvoy about a spot he and his wife had visited on a boat tour, Faraglioni Rocks, sometimes referred to as “Forever Rock.”

Legend has it that when the boat goes beneath the rock, couples are supposed to share a kiss and then they are tied together forever.
Well, McAvoy loved this idea, and the rest is history.
Now, McAvoy is back in Italy, but Kiley Sullivan is now Kiley McAvoy, and the couple’s 13-month-old, Rhys, has joined them.
McAvoy will take the ice with Team USA again on Wednesday during the men’s quarterfinals at 3:10p.m. ET/12:10 p.m. PT.
