It isn’t just those living in the city of Calgary who realize that the Flames have been going through a tough stretch as of late.
With a record of 23-27-6 on the season, the Flames are set to miss the playoffs for the fourth straight year. While it’s far from the worst postseason drought in the NHL, the Flames as an organization have just one Stanley Cup championship to boast about.
Though cheering for a struggling team is never fun, Flames fans who regularly tune into American sitcom The Simpsons were recently given a very good reason to laugh. In a very rare and unexpected moment, Marge Simpson took a shot at the Flames’ rough go of things as of late.
In the scene, a friend of Marge’s knows somebody who just became a minority owner of the Flames. Rather than being impressed, however, Marge takes a dig at Alberta’s southern organization.
“Well, they haven’t been good for years,” Marge says.

This isn’t the first time the Flames have been mentioned on The Simpsons, either. They were also given some recognition back in 2019, albeit in a mocking way, as they were referred to as the “Calgary Lames.”

It’s worth noting that Canadian producer and screenwriter Joel H. Cohen, who was born in Calgary, is a writer for The Simpsons. That may explain why the extremely popular show has these random Flames references from time to time.
The Flames actually happened to capture a playoff spot the night the 2019 episode was released. That won’t be the case this year, but perhaps the recognition once again could work as somewhat of a good luck charm for this team down the stretch of the 2025-26 season.
