A Calder Cup-winning defenseman with the Abbotsford Canucks last year has been traded while on a professional tryout (PTO) with the Vancouver Canucks organization.

In the offseason, defenseman Christian Felton decided it was time to move on from the Vancouver Canucks organization after one season, and would go on to sign a contract with the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies for the 2025-26 campaign.

After 30 games with the Grizzlies, where he had nine points (three goals, six assists), 15 penalty minutes and was a minus-one, Felton was brought back to Abbotsford on a PTO and it looks like that could be coming to an end in the near future.

“Following are the ECHL transactions for Monday, February 16, 2026:

Cincinnati:
Add Christian Felton, D – Acquired from Utah 2/15
Delete Andrew Noel, D – Traded to Utah 2/15″ The ECHL shared on their website.

Felton, a native of Medina, Ohio, was signed by the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent in March of 2024 after four seasons in the NCAA, one with Bentley University and the other three with Merrimack College.

There hasn’t been any official announcement from the Abbotsford Canucks as to whether or not Felton will be released from his PTO or when he will report and make his debut with the Cincinnati Cyclones, but given that the latter traded for him, it would make sense that they’d want to onboard him at some point in the near future.
