The Vancouver Canucks have been hit with some bad news regarding their efforts to move on from veteran forward Evander Kane before the league’s trade deadline.
“While it’s still a rumor – something we don’t normally spend too much time on, but this was just too intriguing to not stop and give it pause for a few minutes – two separate sources over the past week have indicated to Mayor’s Manor that they believe Holland is kicking the tires on a potential Kane trade.” Mayor’s Manor said last month about the Los Angeles Kings’ interest in Evander Kane.
Vancouver Canucks receive bad news in their efforts to trade Evander Kane
While there might be interest in Evander Kane, even from teams in the Eastern Conference, it doesn’t look like the Vancouver Canucks will have an easy time trying to move the 34-year-old.
In a recent article for The Athletic, Thomas Drance described the market for Evander Kane as lukewarm at the moment, even if the Canucks were to retain 50 percent of his remaining salary.
“Put simply, Kane has struggled, and the market to trade for his services on an expiring $5.15 million cap hit is virtually nonexistent. Meanwhile, the market for his services, even if 50 percent of his salary and cap hit is retained, is lukewarm.” Drance said.
This certainly isn’t news that Vancouver Canucks were hoping to hear, however it’s not something to stress about too much right now, given how much time there is until the trade deadline.
In a perfect world, the Canucks will get a third round pick for Evander Kane, who has 25 points in 56 games this season, with the club retaining half of his salary, but if that asset isn’t attainable as we get closer to March 6th, Patrik Allvin might need to settle for less. A fourth or fifth round pick is better than losing him for nothing as a free agent this summer, that’s for sure.
