Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider on Tuesday helped send Germany to the quarterfinals at the Milano Cortina Olympics.

Seider contributed an assist while logging a team-high 23:15 for defensemen in a 5-1 victory over France in the qualifying round.

Germany (2-2) faces Slovakia Wednesday at 6 a.m. ET (Peacock). Slovakia (2-1) is the top seed in Group B.

Leon Draisaitl led the way with a power-play goal and two assists, becoming the first player in German Olympic history to have a three-point game. Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves.

Germany raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. France finished the tournament at 0-4.
