Ten teams remain in both the men’s and women’s tournaments in the Olympics.
The United States and Canadian women will once again duel in the Gold Medal Game on Thursday.
In the men’s tournament, all 7 Dallas Stars players are still competing, representing some of the final eight teams.
The only Stars players playing against each other are Thomas Harley and Radek Faksa in tomorrow’s game. The odds of a Stars player winning any medal are extremely high.
Four games on Wednesday mean four teams are going home without any hardware.Canada and the United States are running the table in both tournaments, with increasingly important hockey games approaching.Women’s Tournament
Once again, the United States and Canada will face off in a Women’s Gold Medal Game. This is the 7th out of 8 Gold Medal Games featuring these two countries. Canada played in all of them, with the US winning Bronze in 2006. The United States is clawing through opponents, outscoring them 31-1. They’ll enter the Gold Medal Game on five straight shutouts, including being the only ones to defeat Canada in these Olympics.
The US won in 1998 and 2018, defeating Canada both times. The United States will need to defeat the five-time champions to capture glory on Thursday. Sweden will play Switzerland for bronze.
United States
Connor Hellebuyck and Jeremy Swayman are two of three goalies to play for the United States. Swayman started over Jake Oettinger in the game against Denmark. Swayman performed his best impersonation of a traffic cone, allowing Denmark to score a goal on a shot from center ice. Oettinger only dressed for one game, backing up Hellebuyck. The men’s tournament is heating up. The only possibility of the gargantuan matchup between the United States and Canada is in the Gold Medal Game. The Olympics close with the hockey finale at 7:10 AM Dallas time on Sunday.
The US team is 3 wins away from its first gold medal in hockey since the 1980 Miracle on Ice.
The 46th Anniversary of the game against the Soviet Union is on Sunday, the date of the Gold Medal Game. Several incredibly difficult teams stand in their way, especially Canada.
Finland

The Finland Stars are performing exceptionally well. All four Stars players from Finland recorded points so far. Even former Stars players Mikael Granlund and Joel Kiviranta are on the scoring sheet. Finland will play Switzerland on Wednesday.
Teams will reseed after this round, meaning Finland could face Canada or the United States if it advances. Teams advancing to the Semifinal means that the country has a 75% chance of coming home with a medal.
Canada
Canada is about to start selling construction equipment after steamrolling everyone standing in their way. Thomas Harley scored in the game against Switzerland. Canada is the favorite as they are fielding a mega-superstar lineup. Connor McDavid leads all Olympians with 9 points in 3 games. Any other team will have a hard time stopping Canada.
One more week separates the Stars from playing NHL hockey again. The Olympics end on Sunday, allowing for two full days off before returning. Thomas Harley and Radek Faksa play each other on Wednesday. More Stars players will faceoff against each other as the playoffs progress.
Stars hockey resumes next Wednesday, hopefully with several players returning as medalists.
