STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – It was a good night for SPASH on Thursday. The boys’ hockey team and both basketball teams picked up wins to accent a big night.
The win was most important for the boys’ hockey team. SPASH took down Chippewa Falls 7-3 to advance to the sectional semifinals in the postseason. The Panthers overcame a 1-0 early deficit, scoring two goals in the final minute of the first to take the lead. The #3 Panthers will play #2 Wausau West in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday.
On the hardwood, the Panthers swept a doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids. The girls were up first, beating Rapids 57-32. The boys followed suit in game two. SPASH beat the Red Raiders 70-32 in their final home game of the regular season. The Panthers improve to 16-6 and still give them a chance to clinch a share of the Valley title. Their next game is against Hudson on Saturday. Rapids falls to 5-17. Their next game is at Tomah on Monday.
Elsewhere, the Loyal girls fell in their Cloverbelt Crossover game to Fall Creek 64-48. The Greyhounds conclude their regular season and will enter the postseason. Their first game is against Lake Holcombe on Tuesday.
