Team USA just won the gold medal game on Sunday in Italy. They flew in to Miami, and it sounds like they’ll be celebrating on Monday night.
There’s a potential White House trip on the Tuesday docket, and eventually, players will rejoin their NHL squads.
Thompson, the Sabres’ top forward, is crucial to Buffalo’s chances of ending a 14-year playoff drought. They’re back in action on Wednesday against the New Jersey Devils.

When is Tage Thompson coming back?
Whether or not Thompson can play on Wednesday remains to be seen.
On Monday, head coach Lindy Ruff laughed and said to reporters, “I don’t know if any of the U.S. group will be able to play this week.”
It sounds mostly like Ruff is amused by the celebrations that the U.S. players are undertaking after their victory.

Still, though, with those being the words that came out of Ruff’s mouth, some Sabres fans are concerned.
In 57 games this season, Thompson has 30 goals and 29 assists (59 points). The 6-foot-6 forward is one of Buffalo’s leaders.
They definitely want him back on the ice sooner rather than later.
